History and legend is waiting in every corner of Sicily, from the street markets of Palermo to the crumbling ruins of country houses in Bagheria. La Sicilia an independent kingdom for centuries was occupied by Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Normans, Arabs, Spanish Viceroys and French Dukes. Even British families like the Whitakers and the Inghams came here to develop and export sweet wine from the coastal city of Marsala. From Byzantine mosaics to Greek temples Sicily is a feast for the eyes - check out @educatedtraveller for numerous Sicilian stories. Visit also @sicilystoriesandmore by Maria Cristina Castellucci for a treasure trove of history, stories and folklore.
Salzburg, magnificent city in Austria, nestling on the River Salzach. The city became wealthy as a result of the salt mines around the town. To the south are the Alps - in town there’s the Hohensalzburg - a fairytale castle - originally a fortified tower - dating from 180 AD now a sprawling castle with courtyards, terraces and amazing views over the Salzach valley and city of Salzburg #Salzburg #Austria / I’ll be back here with @girlsguidetoparis ladies in early October - 2 places left I’d you care to join us - starting in Venice finishing in Munich #grandtourist #educatedtraveller #journeys #travel - message me for details

Global Supper by Lilli Muller - an art installation with a place at the table for hundreds of countries across the globe. The theme is #humanity #sharing #kindness on display in #Venice Madonna del’Orto until 12 July #affiliate of @labiennale - each place setting has a uniquely embroidered place mat, a denim mask and a wine glass filled to a height that equates to the average living standard of that country. The artist @thereallillimuller concerns herself with humanity, kindness, generosity and understanding. #educatedtraveller #grandtourist #globalsupper #venezia #artunites
