Venice Carnival is back in 2023. Two weeks of fun, frolicking and amazing costumes. Photos by me 2019 & 2022 @educatedtraveller #grandtourist #venice #journeys #italy - full article: wp.me/p5eFNn-4Xu
You can’t go far in Venice without seeing a Murano glass chandelier or elegant lamp. Since the 1980s innovator Dale Chihuly has really helped the Venetian glass makers rethink their skills and move into the 21st century! More recently @aiweiwei_studio has shared his skills too. At the risk of boring you I’ve written about the Venetian glass industry and Dale Chihuly and Ai Wei Wei both get several mentions!
The notion of Greek goddesses and Greek gods strutting their muscular stuff has fascinated us for generations. The idea of billowing silk, finely honed calf muscles and a noble physique has an eternal fascination. Lord Leighton, President of the Royal Academy and leading light of the Pre-Raphaelite movement could get enough of those ethereal gowns. The strength of Greek athletes, the eloquence and rigour of philosophical discussion has all been shaped by the Greeks. Join me and a small merry band in May, 2023 to discover more about Greek legends and history whilst visiting Athens, Delphi, Volos, Skopelos and Thessalonika. #Athens #Greece #Leighton #preraphaelites #delphi #delphos
Scenes from Athens, tavernas, history, archaeological sites, it's all waiting for us - when we visit Greece in May, 2023
Starting in Athens on 18th May we are going to be exploring Greece from the capital city of Athens to the archaeological site of Delphi, high on the hillside of Mount Parnassus. From there we'll enjoy a few days on the delightful island of Skopelos, before heading north to Thessalonika. For a little jolt of culture and fabulous cafes. This is a small group trip. We'll be about 8 people - we have three places left to fill. It's going to be fun, all about learning, exploring, good company and great food and wine. See the full itinerary on the blog - Greece - Discovering Legends @educatedtraveller
I'm delighted to announce a new journey for 2023. This one is all about Greece. New and existing friends are all welcome.
The photos show the temple remains and theatre at Delphi, Greece. This is one of the most important and mythical sites in the whole of Greece.
Flavours of Europe #Salzburg #Venice seaside and mountains - so much to discover!
