The historic city of Venice is made up of a series of islands surrounded by water. The NASA aerial shot below shows the lagoon of Venice, the historic centre and the island of Lido. Lido is a barrier island that protects the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. At the northern end of Lido island there is a small airfield, it’s the original Venice Airport. Venice Airport, Lido recently celebrated 100 years in business.

The original Venice Airport is situated at the northern tip of the island, beyond the grass runway there is the lagoon. I had the pleasure of visiting this delightful airfield with Andrew and Billgay just a few weeks ago.
