Aquileia - stunning Basilica and bell tower. Inside amazing early Christian mosaics, just fabulous. Aquileia was a Roman City that flourished until about the 5th century. There are Roman remains everywhere - Roman Forum, Porto Fluviale, Houses, shops, warehouses. At least a dozen active archaeological sites, brilliant. Tesserae - mosaic pieces were exported from here throughout Italy. #must #visit #mustsee @prolocoaquileia @fvglive @borsa_paestum @grand_tourist @educatedtraveller @smithsonian @nytimestravel Full article: https://wp.me/p5eFNn-263

Marching, marching, marching...the bricole protect and organise the lagoon traffic. They act as mooring posts, channel markers and boundaries - very useful, made of wood brought down from the mountains. I like to think of them as a silent army protecting Venice. In the days of the Republic, the forests were a vital resource. Steal a log and you’d be severely punished. #Venezia #bricole #lagoon #Venice #learn #discover #appreciate #enjoy - full story of Venice: https://wp.me/p5eFNn-3Kd @veneziaunica @veneziaautentica @cafoscari @iuav_venezia @palazzo_grassi @educatedtraveller
Canaletto provides us with numerous paintings of Venice in the 18th century. These paintings, known as ‘vedute’ views are rich in detail, colour and even humour. Visit the Doge’s Place from 23 Feb for an exhibition about Canaletto and his legacy to Venice. #history #art #canaletto #canalettoandvenice #veduta #GrandTourist #travel #18thcentury #Venezia #PalazzoDucale @ducalevenezia @visitveneto @veneziaunica @iuav_venezia @cafoscari @palazzo_grassi - for more on Canaletto https://wp.me/p5eFNn-3rt #artlovers #museums
