After the French Revolution Lafayette declares The Republic of France and an end to the monarchy - he was one of the authors of the Rights of Man - an important document published in 1789 guaranteeing every French citizen certain freedoms. In 1789, the French Revolution began. Although a member of the aristocracy, Lafayette was on the side of the people. He wrote and presented the Declaration of the Rights of Man and he was a Citizen of the French National Assembly. When the revolution began he led the National Guard to try and maintain order. He also fought with distinct in America against the British in the War of Independence - he named his son George Washington after his hero! #history #revolution #lafayette #rightsofman #france #revolution #carnavalet

Liberty style in Paris at Musée Carnavalet, Paris - fabulous historic chateau houses a museum to the history of the city. From earliest times thro’ medieval period and French Revolution to 20th and 21st centuries. A room dedicated to Georges Fouquet, liberty-style artist and jewellery maker introduced me to 1920s and 30s stained glass, fantastic mosaic flooring and sculpted peacocks. #liberty #artnouveau #style #quality #Paris #Marais
