Yesterday was the feast day of St Catherine of Alexandria, she was a Christian martyr who died for her faith in the 3rd century. Catherine is often shown in paintings with a carriage wheel, a large wooden wheel that was used as a means to kill her. It did not succeed. Legend has it that her faith protected her from death. A rainy day in Venice calls for an umbrella, ☔️ comfortable shoes and a big coat. A biscuit emergency was declared at 2 pm. Special Buranelli biscuits to the rescue! Biscuits courtesy of Da Romano Ristorante. It was high water on the lagoon today so the MOSE flood carrier was raised! The flood barrier parents flooding in San Marco and Centro Storico. Venice on a gorgeous November day. Festa della Salute - fabulous and the relaunch of Il Nuovo Trionfo after a massive refurbishment - complimenti to the ‘Friends of Nuovo Trionfo’ #Venezia #Salute #nuovotrionfo #festa #grandtourist Milano - a short, sweet visit starting with gorgeous Linate, the original airport of Milan. Linate is small, convenient and just 20 mins from city centre - love it. Other favourites: Etro factory outlet store, Bar Luce, F.ne Prada and Hotel Manin (the perfect base). #linate #barluce #hotelmaninmilano #grandtourist #educatedtraveller #milano Palermo, palaces, magic and mystery! #Palermo #Sicily in November! Festa di San Martino #venice #venezia #educatedtraveller If you love sweet things today’s the day in Venice. It’s the Festa di San Martino, St Martin’s Day, the day when children trot around the streets and alleys of Venice requesting sweets and treats from the shop owners. It’s delightful. The bakeries all make huge shortbread biscuits covered in chocolate, sweets and icing sugar. Totally delicious! The biscuits are in the shape of a man on a horse - to celebrate San Martino who gave half of his cloak to a poor beggar on a cold winters night. This is my favourite Venetian Festival. #Venice #Venezia #SanMartino #Martinstag #stmartin - full story in bio!
