How a unique silk dress known as ‘The Delphos’ transformed women’s fashion and style from 1910 onwards. Designed by Mariano Fortuny and his wife Henriette Negrin - The Delphos was a sensual, figure hugging Greek style dress. It is still made in Venice today at the Fortuny workshops. The gown has been worn by many famous women, including Peggy Guggenheim, Isadora Duncan, Eleonora Duse, Lauren Bacall. It became a symbol for liberation and independence. Recently it’s been used as part of the costume repertoire in Downton Abbey - movie and TV series. @downtonabbey_official @highclere_castle @fortunyvenezia @palazzofortuny_venezia @veneziaunica @igersvenezia @voguemagazine - full article on the dress, design and popularity. https://wp.me/p5eFNn-4yh - fascinating insight into fashion and social history.
Pomposa, Ravenna, Classe - amazing Romanesque architecture and superb mosaics (dating from 7th century). Pomposa was founded as a Benedictine Abbey, must visit in 2020 to discover this special place. On my favourite road the #Romea running from Venice to Chioggia and Ravenna and Rimini south towards Rome (eventually). @abbaziadipomposa @ravennamosaici @visitveneto @educatedtraveller @turismoferrara
