History and legend is waiting in every corner of Sicily, from the street markets of Palermo to the crumbling ruins of country houses in Bagheria. La Sicilia an independent kingdom for centuries was occupied by Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Normans, Arabs, Spanish Viceroys and French Dukes. Even British families like the Whitakers and the Inghams came here to develop and export sweet wine from the coastal city of Marsala. From Byzantine mosaics to Greek temples Sicily is a feast for the eyes - check out @educatedtraveller for numerous Sicilian stories. Visit also @sicilystoriesandmore by Maria Cristina Castellucci for a treasure trove of history, stories and folklore.
